The French Foreign Minister and his German counterpart have decided a visit to Georgia and Moldova will be their first joint venture.

France’s Laurent Fabius and Germany’s Frank-Walter Steinmeier made this decision on Tuesday at a meeting between various Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Paris.

"From the perspective of the European elections, we have chosen to travel together to explain the importance of the European Union to our fellow citizens and the ambition we have for its future,” Fabius said a press conference.

He said the joint visit would be beneficial in tackling issues in troubled countries with EU aspirations. Furthermore, the joint venture would help ensure Georgia and Moldova will enter European Union meetings with a common understanding, he said.

The exact date of the delegates visit has not been announced. However it is believed the pair will visit Georgia and Moldova before February 19 – when the next regular joint cabinet meeting is scheduled to take place.
