The importance of the upcoming 2014 NATO Summit was stressed at a meeting between US Congress representatives and the Georgian Defence Minister.
Irakli Alasania led a meeting with the officials from the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations (SFRC) today.
"The meetings with the Congressional staffers are of utmost importance, the Georgian Minister said.
"These public officials prepare decisions in Congress. We have talked about aspects of mutual co-operation especially about increasing defence armament and enhancement of Georgia`s defence capabilities. [We spoke about] the role of the United States in this regard and concrete decisions, which will enable Georgia to have the army capable to deter the enemy, Alasania stated.
The sides also discussed the NATO integration process.
"At the 2014 NATO Summit Georgia will have unconditional support from the United States to receive all the necessary instruments for a full-fledged integration into NATO, Alasania said after the meeting.
Special attention was attributed to a bilateral military co-operation between the United States and Georgia. The Defence Minister emphasized support from the United States was "critically important for the improvement of Georgias defence capabilities.
