A US Congress delegation is in Georgia today.
The group, consisting of about six Senators and members of Congress, will hold meetings with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, President Giorgi Margvelashvili and other Government members.
They are expected to discuss the Association Agreement (AA), Georgia’s sovereignty and other issues with Georgian officials.
The US Embassy to Georgia said the delegation would also meet opposition political party, United National Movement (UNM) representatives.
The Embassy also said the delegation would reaffirm the US’ support for Georgia’s democratic development and territorial integrity, as well as underscore US appreciation for Georgia’s sacrifices and contribution to NATO missions.
The US lawmakers’ delegation will be led by Senator Ben Cardin, who is the chairman of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, and a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The US delegation will also include Senator Tom Harkin (Iowa - Democrat), Congressman Robert Aderholt (Alabama - Republican), Congressman Adam Schiff (California - Democrat), Congressman Phil Gingrey (Georgia - Republican), and Congressman David Schweikert (Arizona - Republican).
