Georgian police have new powers following a law change.
The 'Law about Police', which came into effect at the beginning of the year, allows police to conduct civil order through their activities governed by the new law.
The police are now able to question people with potentially vital information; however, disclosing this information is dependent on the citizen's will. Also, police should make them aware they are being questioned and what rights they have.
Under the new law, police can now use fingerprint analysis, photographs and other biometric identification methods to identify people. This will take place if citizens refuse to reveal their identity.
If necessary, police can also conduct a visual search of a person, which can last up to a maximum of 30 minutes.
The changes were approved following long debates in parliament.
