A Georgian film with Georgian actors will be shown to the world for the first time at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The Georgia and France co-production, titled Patardzlebi (Brides) will be shown in the Berlinales Panorama selection.

The co-film is directed by Georgian woman Tinatin Kajrishvili. Shooting took place in late 2011 and the film went through the production phase in 2013.

Patardzlebi (Brides) tells the story of prisoners wives. The film describes the difficulties they face during the time their husband are in prisons, including their psychological and financial problems.

In 2011 July, the film was pitched during industry meetings, organised by Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Georgian National Film Center.

Georgian actors Mari Kitia, Darejan Khachidze, Giorgi Maskharashvili, Tamar Mamulashvili and Gvantsa Papuashvili feature in the film.

Although the Hollywood Reporter stated "Asian cinema will take center stage" at the Panorama this year, all three female programme directors -- Sophie Fillieres, Tinatin Kajrishvili, and Elfi Mikesch -- are European.

"Most recently invited are works from Norway, Ethiopia, Mexico, India, Iran, Georgia, Greece, Hungary and Austria - with returning filmmakers Elfi Mikesch and Umut Da?, who opened Panorama 2012 with Kuma, his directorial debut, reads the webpage of the Berlin International Film Festival.

Panoramas main programme will open on February 6 with a Vietnamese sci-fi N??c set in 2030, in which vegetables are cultivated on floating farms in the wake of rising sea levels.

Panorama 64thBerlinale main-programme debut films will be shown at CinemaxX 7.
