Election authorities have estimated the municipal elections runoff will be held in late July.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) said organizing the second round of voting was "a complicated procedure” and was subject to many rules.

At a press conference today, CEC spokesperson Eka Azarashvili said the election administration was currently tallying the final election results.

According to Election Law, the results of yesterday’s vote should be released in 24 days or less. If results showed no electoral candidate gained the required votes, an election runoff would take place.

Azarashvili said the second round of voting should be announced three days after results are released and held within the following two weeks.

Because of these rules, Arazashvili said she could not yet give a concrete date of the runoff elections.

"In this situation I cannot say a particular date but I can tell you that it will be about late July.”

A second vote would take place only if there were no complaints about the summarized results, Azarashvili said.

In the second round of voting, the top two candidates of yesterday’s election will go head to head and the candidate who gains the most votes in the second round will be deemed the winner.

If the result of the second election is a tie between the two candidates, the person who gained the most votes in the first election will be deemed the winner.
