Georgia’s State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration has departed for Ukraine where he will participate in a global conference about how countries can develop after signing agreements with the European Union (EU).
Alex Petriashvili will take part in the two-day conference, scheduled for June 4 and 5.
The conference, titled ‘DCFTAs and Beyond - How the EC can contribute to development and welfare in Eastern partnership countries’ was organised by the Stockholm Institute of Transition and Economic School of Kiev.
There, participants will discuss the importance of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) Agreement with the EU and the possible economic gains Eastern Partnership country could expect once the deal was signed.
During his working visit, Petriashvili is set to meet Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Deshchytsia, State Minister for European Affairs Ostap Semerak and Vice Speaker of Parliament Ruslan Koshulinski.
Before Petriashvili left Georgia earlier today, he told reporters it was very important the conference was being held after the Presidential election in Ukraine.
"I will have the opportunity to deliver a speech and talk about the significance of the Association and Trade Agreements and about the challenges and opportunities of Georgia. This [visit will show] serious support for the Ukrainian people, the newly elected President and his European course.”
