Georgia participates in international regional development conference

Georgia is set to participate in an international regional development conference where world representatives will discuss ways to enforce regional policies and encourage regional cooperation.

Georgian first deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Tengiz Shergelashvili will attend the fourth annual international regional development conference named ‘Overcoming Regional Inequality’.

The conference will be held in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, on May 21 and 22. The main topic of the conference is ‘regional policy enforcement – what are the main factors for its success’.

A statement released by the Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure said the aim of the conference was to encourage countries to share their experiences and create a platform for cooperation in the issues of regional development.

"The conference will also promote the initiatives that will help effective implementation of regional development policy. In addition, the decision makers of this field will share their experience with each other,” read the statement.

The event is being organized by the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction of the Republic of Moldova.

Experts in the field of regional development and representatives of state agencies, as well as international organisations from European Union Eastern Partnership member countries and candidate states, have been invited to participate in the event.

A Georgian delegation attending the conference will also include the deputy chairman of Parliament’s Regional Policy and Local Government Committee Gia Jorjoliani, first deputy Minister of Finance Giorgi Tabuashvili, Advisor of the Minister of Regional Development Vakhtang Parcxaladze and other Ministry representatives and officials.
