Artistic Director of Tbilisi Opera resigns

Zakaria Paliashvili Tbilisi Opera & Ballet Theatres artistic director has resigned.

News of Giorgi Jordanias resignation was officially announced at 6pm this evening.

Members of the Opera crew greeted the news with ovation. They had demanded Jordanias resignation for several days as they believed Zhordania led the theatre to destruction.

Members claimed they received a personal promise from Cultural Minister Guram Odisharia that Zhordania would create sufficient working conditions, attract professional musicians and arrange tours, however the singers believed none of these conditions had been fulfilled.

The theatre's creative troupe blamed Zhordania for leading the theatre into bankruptcy. Now, the creative troupe have demanded to have the power to elect the artistic director and chief conductor, since they believed those appointed to the roles by the Ministry of Culture were unqualified and unprofessional.

Earlier, Tbilisis leading theatre conductor Gianluca Marciano threatened to resign if measures were not be taken to fix problems within the theatre.

Before Jordanias resignation, several meetings were held with the Ministry of the Culture. Minister Guram Odisharia met with both sides and listened to complaints of the crew.
