The court has imposed a 100 GEL fine on Kakheti district Governor David Kevkhishvili, who was arrested yesterday during an incident when supporters of the Kvareli Governor confronted opposition United National Movement (UNM) party member Tamaz Gugushvili and threw eggs at him.

Seventeen other people were arrested yesterday during the same incident and were fined 400 GEL each according to the Court decision.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs said the Kvareli Governor was arrested for "petty hooliganism” while his 17 supporters were also detained for "disobedience to police and petty hooliganism".

Meanwhile, online news agency referring to the chairman of the Kvareli Municipal Council, netgazeti.ge, reported that Kevkhishvili had been dismissed. Netgazeti.ge said it had received this information through text message, but this has not been officially confirmed yet.
