A US State Department official is continuing his official visit to Georgia.
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Thomas Melia arrived in Georgia on April 23. His visit serves as a continuation of earlier meetings between the two countries' governments.
Melia met with Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Maia Panjikidze today.
The pair discussed a wide range of issues, including cooperation between the two countries and the upcoming signing of the Association Agreement between the European Union (EU) and Georgia.
Discussions also focused on regional security issues including the current developments in Ukraine.
The sides highlighted the fact the US was a strategic partner at a Charter of Democracy and Governance working group meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, arranged today at the Ministry.
Earlier, Melia held meetings with the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, representatives of Georgian non-Governmental organisations (NGOs) and media representatives.
