Members of Parliament at the bureau sitting approved a new logo for parliament as it is expected the supreme legislature to be returned from Kutaisi back to capital Tbilisi for next years spring session.
According to a member of Parliaments majority Manana Kobakhidze, the logo reflects the image of the building on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi as the current logo reflected the image of the Kutaisis parliament.
The issue met a fierce disagreement from the opposition members of parliament, saying that approving the new logo violates the constitution of Georgia. "The constitution reads that the location of parliament is Kutaisi and not Tbilisi, Levan Bejhashvili from United Nation Movement Party said.
Relocation of the Parliament back to Tbilisi requires a constitutional amendment. According to Parliament speaker Davit Usupashvili, moving Parliament back to Tbilisi is important for its normal functioning.
The reconstruction of Parliaments old building in Tbilisi is ongoing.
Since May 2012, the Parliament has met at the new Parliament Building in Kutaisi.
