The European Union foreign ministers discussed their plans for the forthcoming summit on the EU's Eastern Partnership at a meeting in Luxembourg on October 21.
They intend to sign deals at the end of November to form closer ties with Georgia, as well as Moldova and Ukraine.
The EU foreign affairs ministers council, chaired by the EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, examined the situation with the EU's southern neighbors.
"We (will) make every effort to make the Vilnius Summit as successful as we have planned. We are committed to strengthen and deepen our collaboration with our eastern partners. The summit will open the new chapter in this relationship with (our) southern neighbors, said Ashton at the press conference after the meeting.
According to the press statement from the Council of the European Union, the Vilnius Summit could see the initialing of the Association Agreement with the Republic of Moldova and with Georgia as well as the signature of the agreement with Ukraine.
As expected, the ministers thrashed out issues with the anticipated negotiations on the EU-Georgia association agreement.
In preparation for the Eastern Partnership Summit (EaP) on 28-29 November in Vilnius, the Council took stock of developments regarding the EU's Eastern Partnership. The partnership launched in May 2009 with the aim of accelerating political association and deepening economic integration with six Eastern partner countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
