Traffic was stopped on the Rustaveli Avenue as the supporters of United National Movement (UNM) were having a demonstrative march, to protest the ongoing political developments in the country, including criminal prosecution of former Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava and Ex-PM Vano Merabishvili.
Before the march, UNM associates, supporters, members of the City Council and administrative staff gathered in the Vera Basketball Hall.
Ex-Mayor Ugulava spoke at the gathering. According to him, the government is starting to resemble blue fox. [A character of Georgian animated film, who claimed to be the King of the woods and ended in a bad manner.]
"There is one thing we should remember, we may be prosecuted today, but we will overcome everything. Life is managed the way that society loves winners. Georgian government is starting to resemble the blue fox by its action, Ugulava announced.
He noted that governments attempts to justify the instigations of the Chief Prosecutor are not the only problem.
"This is a crime and the Prime Minister is a participant of this crime, he said.
Ugulava also stressed that a 25-year-old man is no child and that Garibashvili himself is 31 years old. So, the argument that the Chief Prosecutor had problems with the law when he was young is not valid.
The ex-Mayor also announced that he was arbitrarily revoked of his authority.
"If Im guilty, let the court try me. I will not evade my responsibility. If the government wont stop the illegal actions today, tomorrow may be too late. Every day we observe the erosion of democracy and this must come to an end, added Ugulava.
The supporters of UNM finished the march in front of the Government Chancellery, where they once again voiced their protest against the ongoing events. According to the member of UNM Giorgi Gabashvili, the party plans to continue demonstrations after New Year on wider scales.
