Freedom Charter against Communistic totalitarian symbolic

The changes in the Freedom Charter, aimed at distancing the country from soviet era, were approved by the Georgian parliament on the third reading with 87 votes against two.

According to the amendments, the terms Soviet symbolic and Soviet ideology will be changed to the Communistic totalitarian symbolic and Communistic totalitarian ideology. Also the bill law provides the definition of the totalitarian symbolic. The law will also prevent former KGB agents and senior Communist party officials from occupying high-ranking positions in government.

"I want to congratulate you for getting more independence in our suffering country, but its not enough. said the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Davit Usupashvili after the bill was approved.

Freedom Charter will set up a commission led by the Interior Ministry to identify symbols, monuments, inscriptions. The committee is able to appeal to the executive officials for the annihilation of the communistic and fascistic symbols, statues and graffiti. A failure to comply with the law will carry a fine of 1,000 GEL, according to the bill.
