As soon as Tbilisi Mayor Giorgi Gigi Ugulava will be officially informed about the courts decision concerning his suspension, Vice Mayor of Tbilisi, Sevdia Ugrekheildze will perform his duties.

The statement was made today by Ugulava at the meeting with Tbilisi City Hall employees. Ugulava said this will happen in accordance with the law since he is a law-abiding person.

"According to Georgian legislation, the first vice-mayor is being appointed by the City Council and in case of the Mayors absence, performs his duties. I want this to be well recognized by the City Council since their mercurial passion and dream has been to control the positions at the Tbilisi City Hall, Ugulava said.

Sevdia Ugrekhelidze also commented on Ugulavas suspension, saying the courts decision is a very bad experience for the country.

According to the Tbilisi City Courts decision, Ugulava is suspended from the mayoral post until the final decision is made in the criminal case.   Ugulava is charged with embezzlement of GEL 48 million GEL (28 million USD) of public money.

Ugulava and UNM plan to appeal the courts decision at the Constitutional Court.
