Commission recommends granting pardon to 54 inmates

The State Pardon Commission recommended discharging 54 prisoners. The Commission meeting lasted for 6 hours and discussed all the cases individually.

According to Commission member Ucha Nanuashvili, they discussed 160 cases and recommended reducing the sentence for 15 inmates.

As Nanuashvili says, there are also women and underage prisoners on the pardon list.

The commission postponedthe discussion of several cases in order to study them in detail.

Nanuashvili said that most of the recommended prisoners to be pardoned  were charged for drug-related crimes. He also noted that several more inmates might be added to the list.  

The list will be sent to the President to be approved and signed.
