Prison director has his authority temporarily cut

Director of the #7 penal institution Shota Trapaidze has his authority temporarily suspended over a prisoners possible case of physical abuse.

The Georgian Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance Sozar Subari stated that the investigation is going on. Once it is over, the proper actions will be taken.

"Either the case will go to the court or the director will be restored to his post, Subari said. "The prisoner is injured. He names the prison personnel who had beaten him. But the video recording shows that he is standing on the chair, covering the camera with a piece of cloth. We cannot see what is going on in the room after this. Of course, these may be self-injuries, but it is also possible that he is telling the truth.

According to the Ministry, prisoner Mirza Giglemiani has injured himself several times in the past as a protest.
