Georgian Deputy Defense Minister Mikheil Darchiashvili held meetings with US Congressmen within the framework of his visit in USA.
According to the Ministry of Defense, Darchiashvili introduced the regional security situation to the member of NATO Parliamentary Assembly Delegation, Congressman John Shimkus, a member of the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, and Congressman Ted Deutsch. The sides discussed the prospects of Georgias membership in NATO and EU, along with the process of democratic consolidation.
A great emphasis was put on the ongoing transformation process and the progress made in the field of defense and Georgias contribution in ISAF mission.
The American Congressmen expressed firm support towards Georgias territorial integrity and sovereignty and the countrys choice to join NATO. They thanked the Georgian side for their contribution to the ISAF operation and for future cooperation in the post-ISAF mission.
As the Georgian Defense Ministry reported, American legislators expressed their willingness to continue strong support of issues related to Georgia.
