The Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance (MCLA) reports that the defendant of the Gldani N8 prison committed suicide. According to the information contained in the medical report, he suffered from a mental disorder and was under supervision of a psychiatrist.
"Upon request of the prison administration he was also given a forensic psychiatric examination but the National Forensics Bureau did not confirm a mental disorder. Therefore, the Ministry had no authority tostart the defendant's involuntary treatment through transferring him to the psychiatric facility", - reads the statement of the Ministry.
In addition, according to the MCLA, the defendant was regularly visited by a psychiatrist in his cell, primary care physician and administration officials. After the recommendation of the primary health team, however, he was under 24-hour camera surveillance. Besides this, the monitors could not react on time to prevent what caused the fatal result.
MCLA states that the investigation has already started.
