Greenhouse collaps victims due to heavy snow

Two women died and several injured in the village of Khelvachauri in the Adjara region, due to the heavy snow. The snow collapsed the roof of the greenhouse, where the victims was at that moment.

There were houses damaged in the village of Chaqvi in the Adjara region and cellular connections are not currently available in the mountainous regions. The strong winds uprooted trees in several areas. The kindergartens were also evacuated for security purposes in Batumi.

The vehicular traffic is still prohibited on the highways in Adjara and West Georgia regions.

Over 160,000 residents of Georgia are without electricity in the western Georgia because of a cold snap and heavy snow, according to the energy company Energo-Pro Georgia. Some areas, in the Imereti region of West Georgia, are covered with as much as 50 cm. of snow. The snow has damaged transmission lines.

According to the Georgian Ministry of Energy, the technical brigades are working to repair transmission lines.

"The electricity infrastructure is damaged. However, the technical brigades could determine the impaired areas. The working equipment is in action and the brigades are continuing their work. Unfortunately its impossible to repair transmission lines completely and distribute electricity to every resident. said Irakli Khmaladze, representative of the Ministry of Energy of Georgia.

The rescue teams started last night and are currently working to remove the snow from the roads.

According to the National Weather Station, the weather will begin to improve on December 19.
