Ex-Chief Deputy Prosecutor is charged with torturing

According to the investigation, many high officials of previous government might be involved in prison abuse.

The former Chief Deputy Prosecutor of Georgia, Davit Chkhatarashvili was arrested on December 7, as the representative of the General Prosecution, Davit Kvinikadze stated during the special briefing.

Davit Chkatarashvili, who served as the Chief Deputy Prosecutor until the Parliamentary Election of 2012, is accused of exceeding authority, falsification of documents, abuse and torturing prisoners.

According to the investigation, in September of 2012, Davit Chkatarashvili and the former Minister of Justice Zurab Adeishvili, who is wanted by an Interpol Red Circular, abused several prisoners in Gldani Prison #8 and recorded the torturing.

During that time, Chkatarashvili and the other high officials knew that the former superintendent of the Gldani Prison, Vladimer Bedukadze had handed a lot of torture footage to several journalists. Chkatarashvilis purpose was to spread false information that the investigative structures have revealed the inmates torturing fact in prison, before the opposition TV channels, Maestro and TV9 broadcast the video footage that Vladimer Bedukadze sent them. Bedukadze was in Brussels at that moment.

According to the General Prosecution statement, the investigation will reveal the other high officials who were involved in prison abuse.
