Half a million mothers and children have a shortage of food. This information was shared at the session of Parliaments Health and Social Affairs Committee, which was devoted to the child care program.

UNICEF representative in Georgia, Sascha Graumann presented survey findings to the Committee members and guests, according to which half a million mothers and children do not eat enough food. The survey results also show that, each year, 350 children die from poor nutrition.

As the chairman of the Health Committee Dimitri Khundadze announced, Georgia has severe demographic problems and without child care, this issue cant be solved.

"Today we discussed the strengths and weaknesses of the child care program and thought of the optimal ways for further development. The governments priority is to create a family environment for every child. This goal is accomplished by transforming large institutions to small family-type homes. The state works to take children back to their biological families or to create alternative form of care. Georgia has severe demographic problems and without child care, this issue cant be solved, " Said Dimitri Khundadze

Government officials, international organizations and experts attended the meeting.
