The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) extended aid for the 60 Georgian villages across the occupation line.
The UNHCR funded 200,000 US Dollars for more than 1200 residents of those so called cross-border villages. The one-time aid will be for disable people, large families, and lonely elderly people. Each family will get at least 300 GEL.
The list of needy people was revealed by the several Georgian municipalities.
The cash assistance will be transferred via one of the leading Georgian Banks, Liberty Bank, in the first week of December, 2013.
"We have visited the cross-border villages. These people are depressed indeed, because the barbed wire brings on fear for them. Our organization decided to extend aid for more than 1200 families. The cash isnt solid, however, they will be able to buy needful products and things. said the UNHCR Representative in Georgia Simone Volken.
The government has already allocated 20 million GEL to address the infrastructure needs of families who live in an immediate vicinity of breakaway South Ossetias so called occupation line.
