Margvelashvili replaced Saakashvili on the website of the President of Georgia

Information about the ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili is moved to the section of "History” on the website.

The Presdiential website,  www.president.gov.ge is updated and includes information about the official meetings and biographical data of President Giorgi Margvelashvili, also the legal acts issued by him. The webpage has gone under reconstruction on November 18 and the process still continues but it is already updated.

According to the biographical data, a former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Science in the government of Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, Mr. Margvelashvili is a committed democrat and reformer who revitalized the countrys education system after years of neglect.

"While he is not affiliated with any political party, he was nominated to be the presidential candidate of the governing Georgian Dream Coalition in May 2013, and was elected with more than 62% of the vote. Mr. Margvelashvilis background is in public policy, politics and academia, - reads the site.

The list of the new Presidents priorities consists of 9 items. In particular, Giorgi Margvelashvilis plans are to:

  • Protect the interests of the country and the society.
  • Reinforce state independence, restore territorial integrity, and reinforce the state security system.
  • Promote the formation of a democratic society: establish the judicial state that would be based on the rule of law, institute legal and institutional guarantees for the protection of basic human rights and freedoms, and promote the reinforcement of strong civil society.
  • Promote a free market economy, through the reinforcement of the economic potential of the country, establish stable guarantees for social welfare and social development.
  • Establish democratic state institutions in Georgia.
  • Integrate into the Euro Atlantic sphere, reinforce partnership based on cooperation with the neighboring states.
  • Uncompromisingly fight against corruption.
  • Support democratic reforms.
  • Cooperate with public organizations for the purpose of establishing transparent systems.

As for the personal life of the president, the website indicates that Margvelashvili is 44 years old and unmarried, with a 20-year-old daughter, Ana, who is a student at Georgian Institute of Public Affairs. His partner, Maka Chichua, is an artist and actress. In his spare time, Mr. Margvelashvili enjoys hiking, tai chi, horseback riding, and spending time with friends at his country house in the Dusheti region.

Since the website is still under construction several sub-pages are not completed yet and among them the former presidents' sub-pages.
