Non-governmental organizations start a petition against the possible change in the Georgian Cultural Heritage Law. According to the change initiated by the Ministry of Economy, it is becoming easier to remove a Cultural Heritage status from a monument.

NGOs criticize one sentence of the new legislative initiative, which says, removing a status of Cultural Heritage will be possible "in exceptional cases, when there is an important state necessity.

Head of the Georgian Young Lawyers Association, Kakha Kozhoridze believes this sentence is very unclear.

He also says that the Education and Cultural committee violated parliamentary regulations when they discussed the initiative without announcing it before.

A total of 14 NGOs, that already signed the petition, ask the Georgian Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection to express an opinion on the initiative.
