During a hearing of the ministerial candidates at the parliamentary committees for defense, human rights and procedural issues, the opposition lawmakers claimed that Alexandre Tchikaidze, who is nominated for the post of Interior Minister, did not answering their questions.
Before starting the debates, Tchikaidze, 28, the only one newcomer in the minister cabinet, stated the future priorities of Ministry of Internal Affairs. Chikaidze is proud to being working with Irakli Garibashvili, the acting minister of internal affairs who implemented many important reforms and de-politicized the governmental body.
"Interior Ministry is free from nay political pressure and the ministry became transparent and accountable before the public. The greatest challenge for us was fighting against criminals, that we managed successfully, Chikaidze said.
Incoming interior minister underlined several times that he will continue in dignity reforms that were launched by Irakli Garibashvili and that the police will stay transparent.
Opposition PM Pavle Kublashvili had the questions towards Chikaidze about if he personally had ever given his subordinates or received from superiors, illegal orders.Another lawmaker got interested if Chikaidze was participated on May 26, 2011 anti-government protest rally police which police broke up and today ex-interior minister Vano Merabishvili is facing criminal charges. Ana Mirotadze, the Lawmaker from ruling party asked Chikaidze if he will stay transparent and public towards media.
Moreover, Davit Sakvarelidze, the lawmaker from United National Movement (UNM), an opposition party asked Chikaidze if he agrees if the statistics of the Interior Ministry that the criminal cases decreased in the country.
Chikaidze responded that after the amnesty, there were some problems but today the criminal cases are seriously decreased. "You could check it yourself by asking the people in the street, he added.
By the end of the debates, Chiora Taktakishvili, the lawmaker from UNM said that Chikaidze did not answer any of the questions and compared him to a school student with the lowest mark.
