Only 12 out of 59 judge candidacies were elected by secret ballot at todays meeting of the Georgian High Council of Justice. In order to be elected as a judge, a candidate needed to get at least 10 votes from the 13 Council members.
Chairman of the Supreme Court of Georgia, Konstantin Kublashvili is dissatisfied with the result. He says that due to the great number of cases, the Court needs at least 20 new judges.
"There were only 12 judges elected. I can tell you directly that this is a very bad result. Its not just bad, its really bad, Kublashvili said.
He explained that this result is unacceptable for the Court, as the judges will not be able to hold the trials on time.
Kuplashvili said, "The High Council of Justice was supposed to be more responsible and vote at least for 20 candidates in order to avoid this too bad result.
"I, personally, voted for 40 of them, he added.
The judges had been appointed for a three-year probation period.
