President Saakashvili’s last day in office

Mikheil Saakashvilis time as President of Georgia comes to end. November 15 is his last working day, which Saakashvili is spending out of the country. He is in Brussels, according to the Administration of the President.

The presidents plane, which took Saakashvili to Europe, has already returned to Georgia without the president on board.  

Mikheil Saakashvili will attend the inauguration ceremony of the President-elect of Georgia on November 17 only in case if the government agrees with his terms. Saakasvili wants the government to make a statement that the practice of pre-trial detention of former political leaders will not continue, and the Avlabari Palace will maintain its status as the presidential residence.  

Saakashvili has already signed the resignation letters of the Secretary of the National Security Council and all he State Representatives in regions,  who announced their resignation today.

Mikheil Saakashvili became president in 2004, after the Georgian Rose Revolution, and ruled the country for 9 years, for two presidential terms.
