The Public Defenders Office will host an event dedicated to the International Day for Tolerance today. Deputy public defender, Paata Beltadze will open the ceremony.
According to the press-office of the Ombudsmen, the head of the Tolerance Center Beka Mindiashvili will discuss the achievements and challenges for 2013 in the field of tolerance, after which rewarding of the journalists in the media contest "Tolerance and Diversity will be held. The councils of national minorities and religions will traditionally award "tolerance intercessors those individuals, organizations and media outlets, who have contributed to the development of a culture of tolerance in Georgia.
Representatives of the government, Diplomatic Missions, international and non-governmental organizations and religious and ethnic minorities will attend the event.
International Day for Tolerance is celebrated every year, as a reminder for the necessity of intercultural respect, cooperation, and dialogue. Celebration of this day began in 1996 with the initiative of the United Nations General Assembly. On November 16, 1995, UNESCO adopted a declaration on the principles of Tolerance.
In Georgia the event is organized by the Tolerance Center.
