The Chief Prosecutor of Georgia resigned

The outgoing Chief Prosecutor Archil Kbilashvili stated, he will never return to the government structure.

The Chief Prosecutor of Georgia, Archil Kbilashvili announced his resignation during a special briefing in the General Prosecutor Office at 12:00 pm on November 7.

Kbilashvili also mentioned that he supports PM Ivanishvilis decision to resign and called his choice very courageous.

"I go to the civil sector to support PM Bidzina Ivanishvili, after his resignation. I had conversations about my resignation with him several times, but he assured me that my decision is premature. But I think that premature was my appointment as General Prosecutor. And if not for an abused justice by the previous government, I would be never involved in politics at my age of 41. said Chief Prosecutor.

Archil Kbilashvili also summarized the last year of the General Prosecutor Offices activity. He mentioned that the new government got a rouge legacy from the previous one. And, he wishes for the new prime minister and president to transfer this repressive machinery into a liberal, European standards institution.

"My professional activity coincided to the period of two governments in Georgia. I know that Im the major target of those citizens who dont approve of so called cohabitation, said Archil Kbilashvili. "However, I think that PM Bidzina Ivanishvilis politics in criminal law is balanced and I agree with him Archil Kbilashvili said.

It was the first resignation after the presidential elections. Archil Kbilashvili will remain in office till new presidents inauguration, November 17. According to the Constitution of Georgia, Chief Prosecutor will be appointed by the Prime Minister. Last week the outgoing PM Bidzina Ivanishvili named Irakli Garibashvili, enduring Minister of Internal Affairs, as prime ministerial candidate.
