The committee of Deputy Ministers of the Council of Europe discussed the 8th Consolidated Report "The Conflict in Georgia by Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland. According to the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the report covers the period of April-September 2013.
A debate was held after the presentation, where the member countries of the council made positive assessments on the Consolidated Report and supported the continuation of such practices. The Russian Federation was the only speaker who undermined the effectiveness of the consolidated accounts.
The Georgian delegation focused on the current situation in the occupied territories and stressed the illegal actions of Russian Military along the occupation line. The Georgian side called upon the Council of Europe member states to take effective steps to stop the illegal acts of the Russian Federation. The delegation also thanked member states for their efficiency in developing the non-recognition policy on Georgias occupied territories.
A statement was also made on behalf of the EU members, which expressed strong support of Georgias independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. The European Union has called on the Russian Federation to comply with international obligations, including the six-point ceasefire agreement of August 12, provide the transportation of EU monitoring mission members into the occupied territories, and play a constructive role in Gene negotiations.
Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the Consolidated Report of the Secretary General and the support expressed by the member countries. The Ministry expressed belief that the issue of the "Conflict in Georgia will remain in the Council of Europes political agenda.
