The president of France, Francois Hollande sent a congratulation letter to the Georgia president-elect Giorgi Margvelashvili. The French president mentioned that he will be glad to work with him in the future.
"Mr. President, please receive my sincere congratulations and from the French nation on your victory in the presidential elections. I salute that the elections were conducted in a competitive and transparent environment according to the OSCE observation mission preliminary report, which underscores Georgia being close to democracy and rule of law. I will be glad to work with you in the future, to deepen cooperation and friendly relations between our countries. I hope well meet at the 29 November Vilnius summit that marks a new stage of EU-Georgian cooperation," writes Francois Hollande in his letter.
The incumbent President Mikheil Saakashvili had a pleasant relationship with Francois Hollandes predecessor, Nicolas Sarkozy. The latter played an important role in the solving of the Russia-Georgia War in August 2008. Nicolas Sarkozy met with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev in Kremlin, Moscow on August 12 and approved a six-point peace plan. Later, the Georgian President agreed to the text and signed it.
Mikheil Saakashvili met with Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris on November 4, 2013. According to the incumbent president, they discussed Georgias integration into the EU and also the Sarkozy-Medvedev six-point agreements details.
"I had a long conversation with my friend Nicolas Sarkozy. Hes not the past of France, but a future of his country and whole Europe. Everybody recognizes it. Thats why I appreciate this relation so much. In addition, he is a symbol of Georgias territorial integrity. When he signed the Sarkozy-Medvedev agreement, it was a guarantee that the territorial integrity of Georgia is protected. Mikheil Saakashvili said.
