The Georgian winemaking region of Kakheti tops the list of the finest wine travel destinations to visit this year, coming from VinePair, an online platform for drinks culture and products.
The recommendations for wine-related travel spots were drawn up based on the selected locations’ attractions in beverages, related culture and key trends for wine, beer, and spirits.
The article for the selection highlighted the Georgian province by saying “there is no better place to immerse yourself in Georgian wine than Kakheti”, with its status as “the country's premier wine-producing region”.
“With a winemaking history spanning over 8,000 years, Georgia is often considered the birthplace of wine”, Hannah Staab also notes.
She also introduces readers to the domestic winemaking process, noting its status as part of the UNESCO List of Intangible World Heritage.
Staab also urges travellers to visit wineries, restaurants, museums and historical estates throughout the region.
Kakheti has been selected for the list alongside regions like Loire Valley in France, Setúbal in Portugal and Auckland in New Zealand.
