Austria Press Agency: small country, big effort – how Georgia became exemplary in the fight against COVID-19

In the interview with the APA Georgia's Minister of Health Ekaterine Tikaradze said the main goal of the state is to avoid reaching a viral peak and to create a plateau, which will help the Georgian healthcare system withstand COVID-19’s impact and allow the healthcare system to treat all patients and ensure their recovery.

Austria Press Agency (APA) has published an article titled Small country, big effort – how Georgia became exemplary in the fight against COVID-19, which reads that Georgia has become a role model for the rights steps to fight the pandemic.

Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze notes in the article that along with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), Georgia acted in accordance with its own protocol, which has become one of the most significant factors in preventing the spread of the virus in the country.

Although Georgia was quite far from the epicentre of this disease geographically, we were well aware that it was only a matter of time before the virus would reach the country,” says Ekaterine Tikaradze.

The main strategy that prevented the spread of the virus in Georgia was the quarantining of every confirmed or suspected individual. In addition, campaigns aiming to raise awareness about the importance of social distancing and staying home were launched.

In the interview with APA Tikaradze says the main goal of the state is to avoid an extreme viral peak and to create a plateau, which will help the Georgian healthcare system withstand COVID-19’s impact and allow the country to treat all patients and ensure their recovery.
