Chacha, one of iconic homemade spirits through which travellers are introduced to Georgian hospitality, has been picked among The Guardian's top 10 "warming winter drinks" one can discover around the world.

A Christmas season travel advice piece by writers on the website of the British newspaper shortlists a selection of alcoholic products from the world's cities.

Among drinks like the hirezake variation of the Japanese sake and Danish mulled wine gløgg from Copenhagen, the authors picked chacha as a spirit to introduce their readers to.

It has long had a bad rep for being rough; however, we are witnessing a renaissance of smoother craft chachas and brandies, which are now served in Tbilisi’s finest restaurants," says a selection by Paul Rimple, Tbilisi bureau chief for Culinary Backstreets review website.

The short profile for the drink also includes an advice on where to try it in Georgia's capital, explaining that a visitor trying the local, homemade brandy will "discover why Georgians love to drink this on cold winter nights."
