The rise of Georgia's new fashion scene is the focus of the Observer newspaper, which says the design talent coming out of the country makes it "a cradle of burgeoning fashion talent".

In an article for the New York-based paper's website, senior editor Dena Silver takes a look at the fourth edition of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Tbilisi, which ran from November 2-7.

Along with a crush of international editors and buyers from Italy, France, India and Turkey and a crowd of street-style photographers that chase after the global fashion calendar, the multiday event was an international affair," says Silver in the story before detailing styles and designers featured at the occasion.

Georgia's top industry export Demna Gvasalia receives a special mention in the story.

As co-founder of the Vetements fashion collective and the current creative director of Balenciaga, [Gvasalia] perhaps shines as the brightest beacon of Georgian creativity," notes the author.

But Gvasalia's success story should not overshadow the burgeoning new fashion talent seeking to demonstrate their potential, says Silver.

The likes of George Keburia, Lela Eloshvili and Bessarion all get their share of attention in the article that details their influences and individualities exhibited at the Tbilisi fashion occasion.

There’s Lalo, the reigning leader of inventive knitwear that’s nothing like your mother’s cashmere twinset, over-the-top Alexander Arutyunov, whose inclination toward cartoon-like themes and unabashed use of bright wigs has drawn comparisons to Jeremy Scott," the author of the piece outlines in her review.

The impressions from the designs displayed at the Mercedes Benz event also detail the social and political background of some of the collections.

We doubt that this is the last you’ll hear of Georgia, and it’s talented circle of designers", concludes the story on the New York newspaper's website.
