A country "shrouded in mystery” is quickly becoming one of Europe's "hottest new destinations”.
This is how Georgia was described by globetrotter Jennifer Walker in a piece published by leading American media outlet CNN, naming nine reasons to visit Georgia now.
"Sandwiched between the Caucasus Mountains to the north, the Black Sea to the west and dry deserts to the south, this small country, which borders Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey, is not only a crossroad of cultures, but has a wealth of spectacular landscapes,” Walker wrote.
Some of the reasons to visit the post-Soviet nation included the opportunity to explore the Georgian capital Tbilisi - described by the author as an eclectic melting pot. Also Ushguli - Europe's highest village Georgian wine traditions, the country’s "mysterious” cave cities, feasting traditions, remote mountain villages, ancient churches and Georgian hospitality were also listed.
"Some Georgians might appear a serious bunch at first, but most of them are kind and welcoming,” Walker wrote.
"For Georgians, a guest is a sacred thing and they will often go out of their way to help you. Their generosity and hospitality will often take the form of lots of food and even more drink.”
