President Margvelashvili’s active first days on Twitter

A few hours before Georgias President Giorgi Margvelashvili embarked on his first official visit to Turkey on January 20, he raised his online profile by joining Twitter.  

Margvelashvilis first tweet stated he was glad to be joining the Twitter world. Margvelashvili posted the message about 11am under the username @MargvelashviliG.

 

Margvelashvilis Press Office confirmed that they had put a lot of thought into the first tweet.

"Before starting his political career, Margvelashvili was not active in social networks and we put a lot of thought into how to greet the Twitter users, and I hope we have succeeded, the Press Office said.

Margvelashvilis first day online was very active and throughout the day he updated his followers with news of his first official visit to Turkey. Throughout the course of the day, the President tweeted 13 times.

As for followers, since the leader joined Twitter he had already attracted 224 followers. The Presidents Press Office stressed they had not expected such a high number of followers in a short amount of time.

The tweets of the President has had the greatest response from Turkish users as generally they are very active on Twitter. Furthermore, the launch of it started with Margvelashvilis visit in Turkey.

Agenda.ge has been watching the Presidents twitter feed and some of his comments proved interesting.

As soon as Margvelashvili and the Georgian delegation arrived at Ankara Esenboga International Airport he tweeted that his first state visit to Turkey had started.

 

He also thanked Turkeys Interior Minister Efkan Ala and other members of the Turkish delegation for the welcoming ceremony.

President Margvelashvili described his emotions to his hundreds of followers during his visit to the mausoleum of the first President of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, where a wreath laying ceremony was held.

 

Margvelashvilis followers were kept informed of the Presidents activities, and informed them of his meetings with Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Grand National Assembly Chairman Cemil Cicek.

 

The President ended his first day on Twitter after meeting with Georgian diaspora in Ankara.

The Press Office said that it was Margvelashvili personal request to tweet messages that reflected his personal emotions, and not be too official.

"It was his request to tweet about meeting with Georgian diaspora to reflect his personal feelings, they said.

 

Presidents followers were also kept informed that the restoration of Ishkhani will be finished this year and the rehabilitation of Oshki will start too. These were some of the important spiritual centers of the Middle Ages, located in Tao-Klarjeti province. Nowadays this territory is a part of the provinces of Erzurum, Artvin, Ardahan and Kars in north-eastern part of Turkey.

 

Margvelashvilis Press Office believes the President will be more active on Twitter during his international visits.

The Presidents arrival on Twitter aroused diverse comment from users. Some welcomed him to the social media while user Katy Pearce commented on the profile photo of the President.
