Georgia will sign the Association Agreement (AA) with the European Union on June 27. Two days before the signing, Georgia’s Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Alexi Petriashvili wrote an analytical column to emphasize importance of the AA for the country.
In his article published on the EurActive website on June 25, Petriashvili highlighted that AA is the first step for Georgia on its way to EU membership, and by signing the agreement, Georgia and the wider European region would benefit.
Beyond the political message, the Agreement will also boost mutual economic growth. Georgia offers great opportunity for European traders and investors and already serves as a regional hub for international companies. The harmonisation of standards and removal of tariffs by the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) will further boost economic growth, estimated to reach as high as 6 percent in 2014.
