Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili is continuing his working visit to the United States (US) discussing local and regional security challenges with American politicians.

Meeting with Congressman Gerry Connolly, President Margvelashvili thanked the US politician for supporting Georgia’s territorial integrity and the country’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations.

On my way to meet Congressman Gerry Connolly; We will discuss our countries' strategic partnership; Situation in Georgia’s occupied territories will be once again raised on the meeting” Margvelashvili shared on his Twitter.

He believes the consolidation of international support for Georgia is vital for the country.

Georgia’s security environment and preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit in Brussels, Belgium were among the main issues President Margvelashvili discussed with Senators Bob Menendez, Bob Corker and Jeanne Shaheen.

Margvelashvili spoke about the security situation in the region and the importance of strengthening cooperation and strategic partnership between Georgia and US in the field of security.

Thanking the Senators for their strong support towards Georgia, Margvelashvili said Georgia has the ambition to become a NATO-member state.

We say that we deserve NATO membership and we will do everything to make this real for Georgia”, Margvelashvili said.

He worried that the frozen conflict with Russia over its two breakaway regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) hinders Georgia’s advance on its path to joining NATO.

Condemning the death of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili in the Russian occupied region of Tskhinvali, President Margvelashvili said Georgia will never accept occupation.

Reiterating the strategic partnership between Georgia and US, the Senators said Georgia’s contribution to the international missions is immense.
