The European Union Council on Monday said the bloc was “standing ready to support Georgian people” on their path towards integration into the bloc.
The body noted it was “seriously concerned” about the course of action the Georgian Government had taken, which it said “runs counter to EU values and principles”.
Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on Monday proposed the bloc shift over €100 million of aid from the Government to the country’s civil society organisations to “support them in their fight for a fair election” following the parliamentary vote last month.
