Natia Uchava, a teacher of Georgian language and literature, mathematics, fine and applied arts, and nature studies from the No.126 public school in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, on Friday became the winner of the National Teacher Prize after being nominated among five educators from across the country.
This year's jury, composed of education representatives, scientists, and teachers, identified five finalists, with Uchava being chosen as the best among finalists from Tbilisi and the regions. As the winner, Uchava will receive a cash prize of ₾15,000 ($5,475).
Founded seven years ago, the competition aims to elevate the prestige of the teaching profession and promote its importance. Candidates for the award must demonstrate creative skills in the education process and various professional approaches.
