Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Lasha Bekauri, a Georgian Olympic Champion judo wrestler, on Friday unveiled a newly constructed sports complex in the village of Arkhiloskalo, in the eastern region of Kakheti, with the new facility named after the athlete.

The Government Administration said Kobakhidze inspected the “modern” facility and work performed by the Municipal Development Fund on its construction.

Built with ₾2.3 million ($865,999) financing from the state budget, the complex includes a judo and wrestling hall with seating for 100 spectators and a multifunctional hall for training and weightlifting, the body added.

The building is equipped with central heating and cooling systems, changing rooms, and showers for athletes, along with dedicated spaces for coaches, referees, and medical personnel.

The complex also features conference and administrative areas, offering a “versatile venue” for tournaments and competitions, in addition to athlete training.

The opening was also attended by Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, and other members of the executive and legislative branches.

Bekauri, a 2020 Olympic Games Champion, won another gold after defeating Japan’s Sanshiro Murao 10:1 in the 90 kg category at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games in July.
