Harris Whitbeck, the Minister of Tourism of Guatemala, has expressed his admiration for Georgian cuisine, wine and the diversity of the country following his visit to the capital city Tbilisi as part of World Tourism Day proceedings hosted under the auspices of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation last week.

The Georgian National Tourism Administration on Friday shared Whitbeck’s comment on the event, in which he appreciated hospitality he received in the country, likening the experience to “feeling at home”.

We are thrilled to have taken part in the World Tourism Day in Georgia. I felt right at home during my visit. Visiting Georgia has always been a wish of mine, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity. I absolutely love the cuisine, wine, and the diversity of this country”, he said.

Georgia has it all - the sea, mountains, a vibrant culture, as well as both ancient historical sites and modern attractions. There are plentiful opportunities to connect with the people here. All of this reaffirms what an exceptional destination Georgia is. Despite the short duration of my visit, I have already fallen in love with your country”, Whitbeck added.

Reflecting on the potential for tourism in Georgia, the Minister expressed optimism about the country's capacity to attract “even more visitors” and recognised the opportunities for mutual learning and collaboration between Guatemala and Georgia in the tourism sector.

Government officials, representatives of international organisations and the tourism industry from around the world were hosted in Tbilisi last Friday, with discussion panels focusing on global tourism trends and the role of peace in fostering industry development.

The decision to grant the country the hosting right was unanimously approved by 38 members of the European Commission of the WTO in 2023.
