The Georgian capital city of Tbilisi is set to host World Tourism Day, an annual event held under the auspices of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, for the first time on Friday, the Ministry of Economy said on Tuesday.
This year's theme of the event, Tourism and Peace, will be at the forefront of discussions during the event, the body added.
Government officials, representatives of international organisations and the tourism industry from around the world will be hosted in the city, with discussion panels focusing on global tourism trends and the role of peace in fostering industry development.
Very high-ranking delegations, including 25 ministers from different countries, leaders in the tourism and transport sectors, as well as media representatives, will arrive in the country. Georgia will be in the centre of attention of both the international tourism industry and the media for three days”, Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Deputy Economy Minister, said.
Hosting the occasion in Tbilisi will “elevate its standing in the international tourism arena”, the Ministry added.
The decision to grant the city the hosting right was unanimously approved by 38 members of the European Commission of the WTO in 2023.
