Communities surrounding the newly established Racha National Park, Kvereti Managed Reserve, Tana and Tedzami protected areas and Erusheti National Park in central and western Georgia will receive funding for social and economic projects to improve welfare for locals through small grant projects.

The Georgian Agency of Protected Areas on Friday said a working meeting was hosted with representatives from the German Bank for Reconstruction and Development to support the initiative as part of the grant project Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development in Georgia, signed with the Bank in 2021.

The Agency said workshops had been conducted to identify a “specific needs” of the communities and kickstart the funding stage for the grant projects.

Participants were introduced to the need for ensuring small grants and discussed development of local communities around the protected areas.
