Georgia’s National Forestry Agency, Regional Environmental Centre for Caucasus sign cooperation for biodiversity, conservation

Kakha Tsertsvadze, the Head of the National Forestry Agency of Georgia and Sopo Akhobadze, the Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus on Friday signed a memorandum of cooperation for biodiversity research, conservation and development of environmental education in the country.

The Agency said the memorandum also aimed to raise public awareness of sustainable forest management and forest ecosystems.

The Agency has had a longstanding partnership with the Centre. The signing of the memorandum will deepen and operationalise our current cooperation on forest management issues. We plan to carry out joint projects related to restoration and conservation of ecosystems and endangered species”, Tsertsvadze said.

The Agency further added 111 cases of illegal logging and timber transportation had been recorded in Georgia in March.
