Zhou Qian, the Chinese Ambassador to Georgia, on Saturday told Imedi TV channel that the strategic partnership between the two countries would “undoubtedly” increase Georgia’s international political influence, expand its diplomatic reach and develop economic opportunities.
In an exclusive interview with the channel, Qian reaffirmed his country’s respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, as well as for the goals and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
This is the promise made by China, as a responsible big country, to Georgia and other states [...] From China's point of view, the UN Charter is the most important principle and foundation of the modern international legal system [...] and no exception is allowed”, the Ambassador noted.
In his comments, Qian also highlighted the Georgian Government’s pursuit of peaceful policy, stability and development of the country against the backdrop of “complex geopolitical situations” in the world and in the Black Sea region.
The Ambassador stressed Georgia’s current foreign policy was “independent, balanced, rational and pragmatic” and that it was the combination of “traditional Georgian wisdom” with the modern environment, which helped the country “avoid risks and gain opportunities in today’s chaotic world”.
Georgia’s recently established strategic partnership with China, Romania and other countries and simultaneously the European Union membership candidate status received by the country in December 2023, were also pointed out by the Chinese official.
