Sheraz Gasri, the French Ambassador to Georgia, on Thursday reaffirmed her Government's support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity following the illegal move by de facto authorities in the country’s occupied north-western Abkhazia region to transfer land to Russia this week.
France supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders. Any decision undermining the territorial integrity of Georgia, such as the attempt to transfer land in Abkhazia to Russia, is illegal, null and void.

In her social media post, the diplomat stressed France supported Georgia’s sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders and highlighted “any decision undermining the territorial integrity of Georgia, such as the attempt to transfer land in Abkhazia to Russia, is illegal, null and void”.
The de facto parliament in Abkhazia on Wednesday ratified the transfer to Russia of the Bichvinta holiday retreat.
The transfer grants ownership on all construction on the territory of the resort area to the Russian Federal Protection Service, with the surrounding 186-hectare land transferred to Russia on a 49-year lease.
